The Block Editor (codename “Gutenberg”) is the newest WordPress component with a focus on updating the content editing experience. Specifically, this new component transitions from a single content “blob” towards more structured content based on “blocks”. The concept of “blocks” aims to unify shortcodes, custom HTML, and embeds into a single workflow. Further, these “blocks” are another step in the direction of a true “What You See Is What You Get” content editor.
